Olive oil lowers the risk of death from heart disease, cancer, and dementia

In a recent article published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, a team of researchers found that those who consume around 9 grams (2 teaspoons) of olive oil per day had a 19% lower risk of dying of heart disease, 17% lower risk of dying of cancer, and 29% lower risk of dying of dementia. According to the lead study author, Dr. Guasch-Ferré, “It’s possible that higher olive oil consumption is a marker of an overall healthier diet and higher socioeconomic status. However, even after adjusting for these and other social-economic status factors, our results remained largely the same.”
