Move to the suburbs to lower cancer risk

There is a growing body of scientific evidence that living in a greenspace has important implications for your health and well-being. In the largest study of its kind, scientists at the Harvard School of Epidemiology took a look at the association between “greenness” of the surrounding environment and mortality. Living in the tree-lined streets of the suburbs, or the peace of the countryside, may just save your life according to the Harvard scientists.

More than 100,000 people were studied over an 8-year period. People whose homes were surrounded by the most greenery had 13% less cancer and 34% less respiratory disease. It is thought that being surrounded by vegetation lowers depression and improves mental health. Lower amounts of air pollution in green area also plays a crucial role.
